ENERGY SAVING WINDOWS
Energy saving windows give the maximum on thermal insulation that is why they are certified as being suitable components for passive houses. And here again the approved method that is used is a combination of wood and aluminum which makes a unique window that is custom made for your particular needs.
Anyone who wants to build has to follow the “Energieeinsparverordnung” (EnEv) the energy saving by-laws that went into effect in 2002. And the windows are very important since they are the thinnest place on a house. The Uw-Wert is the description of how much warm energy escapes from inside to the outside through the window. The smaller the Uw amount means the smaller the amount of warm energy lost out of the building. It is measured in Watt (W) per square meter (m²) and in Kelvin (K).
According to the association of window and façade manufactures, windows that reduce the Uw value by only 0.1 W/m²K cause a result in saving of 1.2 liters of heating oil per square meter of window area and heating period.
The energy saving window K9 from Geka Exklusiv has a Uw value of 0.92 W/m²K. For comparison: a conventional IV-68 window has an Uw value of 1.58 W/m²K. That means of course you can save 7.68 Liters of heating oil per square meter of window area and heating period by using the K9 energy saving window.
Where do the excellent insulating values of the K9 Energy saving windows come from?
- The frame from the raw material wood. Wood has a natural excellent insulating value. It's not by chance that wooden windows take a leading position in being used in passive houses.
- A profile 78mm strong. That is 10mm more than a conventional window.
- Three layers of isolating glass.
- The technology of the "warm edges". Instead of the conventional aluminum distance pieces that lets the warmth flow out as if over a bridge, in our K9 windows we use stainless steel distance pieces. Stainless steel is not a good conductor and therefore gives a balanced temperature distribution in the whole structure.
